It doesn't matter whether you have a few fresh-picked cucumbers or ten pounds of beets. And once your pantry is fully stocked, Chesman provides recipes for 35 delicious ways to use your pickles in prepared dishes. Cover image from www.BN.com, summary from book
My Review: I have to admit, I was hesitant when offered this book. I'm a huge Andrea Chesman fan, but pickling really isn't my thing. I accepted it out of pure curiosity, (and because I'm a huge Andrea Chesman fan) and was pleasantly surprised to have a to-do list stuck on the inside when I finished browsing through it. Like her other books, it's a great resource if you've got a fruit or vegetable you're not sure what to with. Plus, it's packed with all kinds of information about pickling and canning.
In addition to pickles (and pickled vegetables) she has recipes for salsas and relishes, which caught my eye. Next on my list is her tomatillo salsa and tomato relish! (Because my tomato plants have NOT gotten the memo and are still spewing fruit.)
I already tried her Homemade Sauerkraut recipe last spring because that recipe was also in Recipes from the Root Cellar (along with the Hot German Potato Salad with Sauerkraut which is also in both books). From this book I made the Napa Cabbage and Carrot Kimchi. My husband is a fan of kimchi, so I did it for him. (True love) While I don't think I'll be gobbling this stuff up by the bowl full, it's a great spicy-pickly garnish for salads, sandwiches, stir-frys, and even tacos. Yep, tacos.
If there's anything you've ever wanted to pickle, chances are you'll find what you need in this book. Plus recipes to use them in once they're finished!
My Rating: 5
Sum it up: The perfect book for all things pickled.

Thanks for the chance to win! I've made quick-pickled red onions and cucumbers, both of which I actually loved, but I've never thought of pickling anything else. I'm a big fan of Andrea Chesman's roasted vegetable cookbook (and of Perry's Plate, of course!), so I'm sure I could find more than a few recipes in this book that would pique my interest. :)

My favorite would be dill pickles. thanks!
Oh well, I'll go first. I currently pickle beets, cucumbers, zucchini and carrots but am open to suggestions on anything - oh, and cauliflower - especially when the garden comes it like it did this year and I'm pondering a counter full of produce and screaming, "WHAT IN GOD'S NAME AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL OF THIS?!"
Thanks for the opportunity to win

This book looks fantastic! I have developed a pickling/canning/preserving habit over the past couple of years that has included the basics (canning peaches and pears), has expanded to making homemade sauerkraut, and has also included adventures in pickled turmeric daikon... which was delicious, by the way! I was even given a 5 gallon old-fashioned crock, complete with weighting stones just to feed the habit. So needless to say, I am very interested in this book!

YES, I would love to win a copy of this book! You'd be making two happy households if I got my hands on this book, because my in-laws also love pickled things. My Father-In-Law especially loves KIMCHI!
My love of pickels is limitless, I've tried sour pickels in Maine, garlic pickels from the steet vendor in DC, and lemon pickels from my Indian friend. I say yumm to them all. Most reciently, my sister gave me a newly jared Hungarian Pickel which she would not share her recipe - so, I'd love to win this book and make her envious! Thanks
I love pickels! I try all types and can recall the tastes. I've tried sour pickels in Maine, garlic pickels in DC, and Lemon Pickels from my Indian friend. Most recently, my sister gave me some fresh Hungarian Pickels that she jared. I loved them. She would not share the recipe. Winning this book would make her very envious!
I'm so in love with homemade sauerkraut and I've been wanting to try kimchi for a while, but I just haven't gotten around to it...It sounds so delightful though.

I have only ever made my own sauerkraut, which is delicious, and I would love to venture into other things like salsas and kimchi. But the pickles and pickled vegetables have my mouth watering, and would be my first endevour because that is what my pregnancy is demanding. :) Amanda - amanda@balancedlivingvancouver.com
I love pickles, and relish, and most things pickled! And I love Reading for Sanity! My email is domestcgoddess at hotmail dot com. (And yes, there really is no "i" in the word domestic in my email address.)
Wow! My mouth is watering! I came from good 'ol Southern Watermelon Rind Pickle roots, and married into a German Sauerkraut family, and together we brew Kombucha and drink Kefir! Noticed a Kimchi Camp at this year's Burning Man...definitely gotta make some of my "summer" kimchi to take next year! You wrote this book for me, didn't you? We're just like 2 bumps on a pickle!
I would love to win a copy of the book so that I could make sauerkraut, I buy the bottled stuff at the store which is ok but im sure home made is GREAT! and better for you too! Thanks for a great giveaway! Brenda bydubois10@yahoo.com
